Every year, Coney Island is home to the Mermaid Parade, a colorful and vibrant event to start the summer. Hundreds of thousands of spectators attend the Mardi Gras-like parade, as thousands of participants dressed as mermaids or other sea creatures ride floats down the street and perform for the spectators.
